Overview

The 2019 iteration of the temporary plastic recycling workshop took us to the Electric Castle Festival in Bonțida, Cluj County. Tailored for a festival environment, the main goal of the workshop was to educate participants and give solutions regarding plastic recycling — 6 workshops took place on the spot, live at the festival, giving participants the possibility to recycle plastic waste into new objects.

In the evenings we organised talks & interactive games on bigger sustainability issues, facilitated by our partners from Clujul Sustenabil, Food Waste Combat, WeRecycle and more.

The Experience

Bring plastic waste!

Choose a workshop!

Transform it into something new!

The Workshops

Roll It

Facilitated by Zelenew, a design & recycling studio from Lviv, Ukraine, this workshop showcased a beautiful technique that transforms plastic flakes first into different shaped filaments and then into magical coloured bowls and baskets.

Cook It

Facilitated by the fashion and jewelry designer Borbala Ferencz, this workshop enabled festival goes to make earrings and keychains out of plastic caps by using an electric oven.

Tailor It

Facilitated by artists Raluca Vlad & Apai Emese, this workshop showcased a simple technique that creates a new durable material out of plastic bags, which can later be used for tailoring new objects.

Knit It

Facilitated by Runo&Ka, this workshop was based on traditional crafts and invited visitors to learn knitting and crocheting by using a cheap and ubiquitous material: plarn – plastic yarn made out of plastic bags.

Think It

Together with Prototip Studio, we started a conversation on what else we could build, that could be useful for the community. Thinking about it, plastic is still a versatile material, even after one use. While they took charge of a new workshop with students from the Architecture University, we set up a small Living Lab and invited visitors to learn more about the project and to get involved in the process.
